Long Beach Turkey Trot Kids Run, 5K, and 10K – A Great Way to Start Thanksgiving Day!

Web BannerBefore sitting down at your beautifully decorated dinner table with flowers from Allen’s Flower Market, get your exercise in by signing up for the Long Beach Turkey Trot with a kids run, 5K, and 10K. This is a great way to burn some of those Thanksgiving calories that will be consumed later in the day.

There are various race times for this event, starting and ending at the Belmont Olympic Pool located at 1 Bennett Avenue in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. More than 6,000 runners are walkers are expected at this 11th annual event. Parking information can be found online as well as maps and additional information.

The flat “out-and-back” course, which heads toward the Queen Mary and downtown Long Beach, is on the scenic beach bike path.

The 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk starts at 7:00, 8:00, and/or 10:00; 10K (6.2 miles) run/walk begins at 7:00, 8:00, or 9:00 a.m., and the 1/2-Mile Kids’ Fun Run starts at 9:10 a.m. (ages 7 & under) and 9:15 a.m. (ages 8-12). Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome for this particular running and walking event, so please leave them at home!turkeytrot2

This community event is put on by C.A.T., the Community Action Team that was put together as a non-profit organization to promote social well-being among those who live in Long Beach. The event is also sponsored by the Grunion Gazette and Councilman Gary DeLong’s office.

There are charities that will benefit from the race’s proceeds, including food banks who would appreciate donations of canned goods at the event. In fact, in exchange for free beachfront parking on Wednesday and Thursday, all you have to do is bring two non-perishable items.turkeytrot3

The event is putting on a best legs contest with a $500 prize that will be given to the charity or school of your choice!

There is still time to register online! They also are looking for volunteers to help out at the event! This is a great way to show your thanks on Thanksgiving Day by spending it with your community and neighbors before you join your loved ones later for Thanksgiving dinner!
